What We Do

We define our work by the interventions communities put in place to strengthen their resilience, vitality, and well-being, including:

  • Forms of capital that keep wealth circulating locally, such as cooperative and employee ownership and community-led investment funds;

  • Systems of exchange that build mutual support, including shared equipment, common workspaces, and coordinated purchasing;

  • Governance structures that give workers, residents, and local enterprises a meaningful voice in shaping economic priorities;

  • Climate resilience strategies that prepare production ecosystems to meet critical needs during disruption, localizing essential supply chains and ensuring backup capacity for vital goods; and

  • Workforce training that equips people with the skills to respond effectively in times of crisis and sustain production in the mid-term.

We co-design and co-implement these interventions with communities, collaborating with a diverse set of stakeholders—from government agencies to community-based nonprofits; lenders to national think tanks; churches to universities—to drive our mission forward. Here’s what we create with our community partners:

Connection

We bring together organizations–both those traditionally associated with manufacturing and those who are not–to build relationships, share knowledge, and create new opportunities for collaboration.

Knowledge Sharing

We facilitate learning opportunities where participants can engage with experts and peers to explore shared challenges, emerging opportunities, and new ways of thinking about the future of manufacturing.

Research

We conduct in-depth research on trends, gaps, and emerging opportunities in manufacturing, providing actionable insights to inform decisions and strategies across diverse ecosystems.

Technical Assistance

We offer tailored support and training to help organizations enhance their skills, knowledge, and ability to navigate and contribute to the evolving production landscape.

Resource Co-Creation

We collaborate with partners to design tools, strategies, and resources that address real-world challenges faced by manufacturing practitioners and businesses.

Policy Analysis & Advocacy

We identify key policy issues, advocate for change, and support our partners in advocating for policies that create a more equitable and resilient manufacturing economy.
